Special dinner with Fair Trade Food 2013/03/22

“Back to original flavor” was jointly organized by Ground works from St. James’ Settlement, New Choi Yuen Village Pioneer field and Fair Circle from Hong Kong Fair Trade Power. It has been held on 10 March 2013. I am now having my internship in Hong Kong Fair Trade Power. Luckily, I have taken part in this event and prepared the food for participants.

This activity combined the concept of Fair Trade and how the community support agriculture, so the food provided in the event were mainly fruits and Fair Trade products including fried Loosestrife, Chayote, fried red rice with Tomato and Broccoli head and Handmade fettuccine and so on. I had been impressed by a dish called Bacon Pizza. Its base was red because we added the juice of Beetroot head instead of water to the flour. In fact, it is easy to make a bacon pizza. First, bake the pizza dough, then add some stuff like cheese, tomatoes and bacon on it and finally put the whole pizza to the oven again. It seems that the combination of stuff is quite strange, but it taste really good!

In the banquet, the participants not only could try different kinds of dishes but also could make the food themselves including wrapping dumplings and making Quinoa dessert. The participants would learn how to wrap dumplings from the staff of Ground Works before the banquet so as to put it as one of the dishes in the banquet. Near the end of the banquet, participants could make use of the ingredients like quinoa, chocolate power and strawberry to make their own dessert.

This banquet is quite different from those Mainstream ones, from the participants’ face and response, we could know how fun and how they enjoy it.

“Back to original flavor” offered a special banquet to the participants and reminds people the relationship between human being and environment. If Hong Kong has matured technologies in agriculture and more people are dedicated to agriculture and provide good produce, why don’t we give them more support and rooms to develop? I believe this can balance the development between human and environment and show the peaceful coexistence of human and environment.
